How to indicate goods and services in the application

In your trademark application, indicate the goods and services which the trademark is intended to protect. In order to make the scope of the trademark clear, the application must include a list specifying the goods and services that the trademark is intended to protect.

Include the list of goods and services in the language of application, in other words in Finnish, Swedish or English.

Please note that you can change the language of the user interface in the online application – it will not affect the language of application.

Classification of goods and services

All goods and services are divided into 45 classes. Classes 1–34 comprise goods and classes 35–45 comprise services. Classes comprise terms. The number of classes affects the price of the application, whereas the number of terms has no effect on the price.

A correctly classified trademark that considers the applicant’s needs is easier to process and serves the owner of the trademark more efficiently.

Indicating goods and services in your online application

Our online service includes a tool that helps you classify and indicate the goods and services of the trademark. Indicate the chosen goods and services by class. If you cannot find a certain item or service in the online service, you can add a free-form term under the class where you believe the term would belong.

Please note that the terms which the service suggests automatically are correctly classified and can be accepted as they are. Choosing from these terms will speed up the application process.

You cannot extend your original list of goods and services

After the application has become pending, you cannot extend your original list of goods and services to include any new goods or services. In contrast, you can reduce and specify the list of goods and services.

Use the TMclass tool

Use TMclass to check what kinds of indications of goods or services have been accepted in each class. TMclass is a tool maintained by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Go to TMclass.Open link in a new tab
